In my Science Fiction class, I am assigned to read Michael Crichton's successful novel turned movie, "Jurassic Park". I must say the book is entirely different than the movie. Yes, the movie captures some of the elements of what Michael Crichton was trying to get across to his readers. Sadly, the movie only captures the last part of the book. They forget to explain the entire purpose of Jurassic Park. The whole concept of Jurassic Park was about a greedy businessman named John Hammond who hired many scientist to view and approve of his new idea of a recreation of the Jurassic Era when dinosaurs once roamed the earth. After being warned about the dangers of recreating life that was not suited for dinosaurs anymore, Hammond continued to promote his idea as "entertaining for the kids". In the beginning chapters of Jurrasic Park, many cases of dinosaur attacks around the island, Costa Rica were the main focus. As someone who has read nearly all the book, and has watch the movie numerous of times of HBO, I can honestly say that Michael Crichton should feel cheated in a way with the finishing result of the movie that was suppose to reflect his novel. Of course the motion picture did well at the box office, but for those who read the book can agree that majority of Jurassic Park was a classical novel that explain the effects when man trys to recreate life that was extinct. It is impossible to win while dealing with dangerous, and killing animals like Dinosaurs. The juicy details of the Velociraptors tearing the flesh of their prey was the only thing the Hollywood version of Jurassic Park, captured. If I never read the book, I would never remember the biggest part of the entire novel. Dennis Nedry, was the mad man behind all of it. The T-Rex's ability to attack the public, the power outage around the island, and the main reason why everyone's lives on that island, including himself would change forever.
I give this novel 4 stars
