You already know that if I were to discuss Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks, "Young Frankenstein", then I would have to discuss the horrible movie it was mocking. Yes, I am talking about, Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein". Most of us think of Frankenstein's Monster as the face of Herman Munster. You know, the bolts on the side of the neck, flat topped head, with eye liner stitches on his face. No, in this version of Frankenstein, the monster look like a burn victim with terrible plastic surgery. Yes, I am talking about Robert De'Niro's character. It is a mockery itself, that movie's the casting director suggested that De'Niro play in a role that is far off of his normal roles. De'Niro is known for his roles in hits such as; Meet The Parents, Good Fella, The Untouchables, and Jacknife. The role of playing a slimy, monster must have been a desperate call for extra cash. Where do I begin with all the reasons to NOT see this movie. Well 1) The terrible acting from all of the cast members. Even De'Niro playing as the monster was tooth-pulling to watch. 2) What was with all the dramatic "fake" tears coming from Victor Frankenstein (Kenneth Branagh)? I mean you would think he never acted before a day in his life, and never heard of the words, ACTING COACH. Well just like with all of my other blogs, I might as well explain the concept of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein". Well Victor Frankenstein is this wealthy guy who wants to become a doctor. While attending medical school, he announces that people should be able to bring back life in the dead. I believe his exact reasoning was "Husband and Wife should be able to live together for ever". (Victor Frankenstein) Anyway, he meets this other professor who tried the same experiment of bringing the dead back to life but had failed. Pushy Victor, wanted to finish the experiment, so he gathered a dead body, his late professor's brain, and started creating 'The Monster'. At first, I thought it was interesting how he create 'The Monster' but after watching Victor and 'The Monster' play around in amniotic fluid for ten painful minutes, I decided that the movie was getting to that point where someone needed to pull the DVD plug out of the socket. After 'The Monster' escaped out of Victor's home, he discovered that he was trully nothing but an ugly looking piece of crap that society was not ready for. I think the most disappointing thing about this movie was, they made it seem like Mary Shelley wanted Frankenstein's monster to be this 'MONSTER'. In reality, she wanted Victor to create another human that represented himself. She didnt want the 'Monster' to be this scary, threat to society. I honestly think that if director and character of Victor Frankenstein, Kenneth Branagh, would have read the novel first, and comprehend the concept and story Mary Shelley wanted to get across, then his movie wouldnt have been the garbage it was.
I give this movie 1 star
